Oh, to be young again
A little after 9 a.m. yesterday, my pal Aaron Marvin and I got on iChat as the KU/Portland State game got under way. I was watching on my work computer via the web, and he was working at home watching on TV.
Of course, trash talk was flowing like honey.
One of the funnier elements of our banter included the time lag: me watching through a slow web interface and being about ten seconds behind Aaron’s live broadcast. That meant I got a warning each time some Chickenhawk dunked or threw up a 40-foot three pointer.
By far the most entertaining aspect, in retrospect, was the source of interruptions in our chat. Seriously. I turned 39 yesterday and it became clear as a bell that I’m getting old.
Ten/twenty years ago Aaron and I both would have been in some sports bar downing beers and racing to the bathroom during TV timeouts. But yesterday – me being in my office and Aaron working at home while caring for an infant son – the most common BRB message came because of phone calls and/or meetings (for me) and ‘hey, I gotta go deal with a baby who won’t stay down for his nap’ (Aaron).
Oh, to be young again.
I’ll drink to being young again. It was fun trading messages during the game while we worked though. Ain’t technology grand?
